Abu's Jinns by Ayesha Muzaffar | Book Review |

We all have felt an adrenaline rush whenever the thought of reading or watching a spine chilling book or movie crossed our mind. Those eerie and blood-curdling sensations are quite hard to decipher. Since childhood, I have been a fan & follower of ''Spooky Stories'' and ''Sinister Movies''. I grew up watching and reading horrifying plus petrifying movies and stories that claimed to center on real happenings.

I remember how much I enjoyed reading Ayesha Muzaffar's spine-tingling stories on her Instagram account  "Abu's Jinns''. Stories that she used to post on her account had the perfect blend of hair-raising elements which when mixed with ''Desi Spice'' gave the fantabulous fusion of chills to crack me out. I was as happy as Larry the day I got to know about her first publication. It's been a while now since I last read her stories on Insta ):

''Abu's Jinns'' is a collection of short spooky stories revolving around the escapades of 'Adnan Sahab' an Exorcist who has dedicated his life to helping the individuals who crossed their path with the unseeing unconsciously & are being haunted by those horrendous entities now followed by uncanny events.

I admire the way Author has tried to frame each & every story but being a horror-maniac who likes to make sense of things that make an appearance his way, I would like to put in my two cents. Even though it is a horror novella that is supposed to freak its readers out;  it somehow failed to frighten me. I hardly felt an inkling of an entity standing next to my bedside.

The elements which escalated my excitement include those teeny-tiny shots of ''Desi Touch'' in between different plots and stories. The bits that kept me embedded with the story were the details that all brown kids have believed in when it comes to Horror Stories. Now let's talk about one or two factors that put me off while reading this horror novella; the errors in the text, the repetitive plot, and the theme of the book drained my energy at a few places, which rarely happens when it comes to reading Ghost Stories. However, to cut a long story short, it was quite a good read to kick start the reading ritual in 2021. A few of my favorite stories from this book include:

 1- Zubi

2- Untitled

3- Chanda

4- Bhera (being my best-loved)

PS;  Ayesha Muzaffar was kind enough to send me the e-book copy of Abu's Jinns. Thank you for the kind gesture.

I have rated it 3 out of 5 on Goodreads.

  1. Loved the way you have described the plot of this horror novella. I have always enjoyed binge-watching horror movies but reading isn't really something that compliments me.
